My year has been pretty eventful. At least that what it seems like as I write up my end of year comparison of what I was supposed to do versus what I actually did. While the write-up might be meant for my supervisors to measure my work, it was actually a very healthy exercise for me. I tried to be objective and match up my accomplishments against the original goals for my positions. I can see where something fell through the cracks, but overall, I see just that: Accomplishments. I think I'd recommend this sort of write up to everyone on their workiversary. It's a wonderful way to measure personal and professional progress as well as step back and analyze how things could have been done better or where steps came up short. While that might not always be a pleasant experience, it's a great way to set goals for the coming year.
Anyway, happy workiversary to me! Objectively, I've done what I set out to do this year. In the coming year, though, I hope to make my work more thorough by learning to better understand code. At the moment, I work with more code than ever. And it's a bit like Spanish to me. I understand it...mostly. But I don't really understand it well enough to fix a problem in the syntax efficiently. I am also going to go back and write up a thorough guide to how I downloaded, installed, and customized CollectiveAccess. I'm doing this both for myself and for others. If you're familiar with CA, you may know that while there is some documentation out for the newest version, it isn't extensive. I spend a bit of time working problems out myself, using the forum, and calling up the developers. I know it'll be helpful to have someone's experience clearly laid out, step by step.
After this week, I'll have a better idea of my office's goals for this position for the coming year. I'll be sure to share them here. :-)
