Amigos Library Services is an organization based in Texas with the goal of serving libraries and cultural heritage institutions through technology. You can learn more about the group by visiting their website. Amigos provides a wide range of continuing education opportunities, disaster planning and preservation resources, online conferences and webinars, and consulting services among other offerings. The online conference which I will be speaking at will take place on Thursday, September 17th. Nicole Engard will be the keynote speaker for the day. From the Amigos website:
Nicole will begin her talk entitled Open Your Mind: Open Source and Libraries with an introduction to open source and why it’s a great option for libraries and archives. Additionally, she will speak about her own experiences with open source and the importance of going into the community to increase awareness of open source offerings for libraries.
For the (un)Development part of my post, I am not so pleased to announce that I'll be letting my SAA membership lapse this year. I am not letting my membership lapse due to any desire to distance myself from the professional community. However, the cost of membership is not one we can support this year. I hope to continue to be involved in the wider archival community through other avenues, and I look forward to renewing my SAA membership at some point in the future.
