First, it's #ArchivesMonth! South Carolina's theme (courtesy of the SC Archival Association) is building bridges. The idea behind this theme is to explore archives and archivists that have been bridge builders with entities both within and without the archives community. The idea is specifically: connecting archives with the community. SCAA was to host its annual meeting/conference at the Dept. of Archives and History but cancelled the event in anticipation of historic rainfall. It was definitely for the best because SC experienced a 1 in a 1000 year rainstorm this weekend. Flooding has been deadly and destructive. If you're in SC right now, be careful and DO NOT DRIVE PAST BARRICADES! They're there for a reason.
You may remember from my last post that I was preparing a presentation for Amigos Library Services virtual conference on Open Source in Libraries and Archives. I'll post my slides to the presentation section. You can access the full conference online with recordings here. You can find the slides for the keynote presentation for free here. I felt that my presentation was helpful to some people and definitely for me as it helped me to connect with other CollectiveAccess users! Though I'm currently playing catch up and am still in the process of contacting some of those potential CollectiveAccess users who wanted further information.
Finally, PALMCOP is gearing up to have its annual meeting in November! We'll be discussing disaster prep (extremely relevant at the moment...). I'll be sure to push out more information as I get it, but so far, it looks like we'll hold the conference in Columbia itself.
