1. I completed my masters paper on collaboration between oral history programs and archival repositories. You can read it here.
2. I graduated with my Masters of Science in Library Science!
3. I moved to Columbia, SC in order to start a job with the SC Department of Archives and History in the State Historic Preservation Office.
4. I spoke at the South Carolina Archival Association's annual meeting at Newberry College.
5. I wrote a short report for the office on other State Historic Preservation Offices and their databases.
6. I attended a course on SQL, and then built a MySQL database with 72 historic properties.
7. I attended the National Trust for Historic Preservation's annual meeting, the Southeastern Archives and Records Conference, and the Best Practices Exchange. (All before Thanksgiving!)
8. I successfully installed and enabled the cataloging side of CollectiveAccess for use with data entry. (I even imported 72 historic properties from the Newberry County Survey from 2003!)
Looking back, I feel like there should be more items on that list. Regardless of how many achievements I listed, 2014 has been a productive year for me. I've learned that it's okay to step outside of the box: archivist doesn't just mean the stacks, processing, and reference work. I've learned to confidently ask for opportunities like speaking at SCAA and funding to attend a course for my job. And I've learned a LOT about databases, historic preservation, and CollectiveAccess.
So here's to another year of professional growth! I hope that even if there are setbacks, I remember that my career isn't a race; it's a long-haul. I fully intend to lose a few battles in order to win the war.
On a much more personal note, I eloped this past year on August 2nd! It doesn't make the "professional" list, but it's definitely significant!
